Did you know that Fukuoka’s signature food - mentaiko - was modified from a Korean food called myeongnan-jeot? Given that Fukuoka is in such close proximity to South Korea, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to us. In fact, you can board a ferry at Fukuoka Port and travel to Busan, South Korea. But the purpose of this post is not to bore you with details of mentaiko history. It aims to whet your appetite with my painstakingly curated spread of mentaiko photos. You can first try mentaiko pasta sold at all good combini stores in Fukuoka and even Kumamoto. Tbh, I’m not a fan of French bread, but somehow, tearing the hard bread off my mouth made me appreciate the mentaiko more. Maybe it’s because the mentaiko lingered longer on my lips, delighting my taste buds. I am a fan of anything mentaiko. Honestly, I bought these mentaiko squid crackers just because the cover screams 明太子.
