You have probably watched one too many anime about school life in Japan and are wondering about the extent to which these anime are a reflection of reality. So read on to find out about the events that allow Japanese junior high school students to live life to the fullest.
- Fighting it out during Sports Festival
Junior high school students look forward to their Sports Festival, and no wonder! First, every student will run a lap each for their class during the inter-class relay competition, so it’s nail-biting action as everyone gives it their all during racing. Second, the boys will perform a human pyramid that can last up to ten tiers, so that’s always fun to watch!
- Exploring together during school trips
All second-year students will embark on a school trip to another prefecture. Most students cherish this trip as they deepen their friendships during meals, shower time and late-night chats when they are supposed to be sleeping.
- Playing together during Karuta contest
Karita is a traditional card game that requires one to hit the correct card when the game host reads aloud an extract from a poem out of a pool of one hundred poems. All year one students will compete against their peers in an inter-class Karuta contest to see who can recognise the poem fastest and snatch away the right card first.
