Esoteric Fact About Japan #1
The / tourists / ride / on / trishaws / to / go / sightseeing.
Today’s lesson was decidedly low-tech. Basically, I gave each student one or two words. They were required to work with their group members to arrange themselves according to the order in which the words appeared in the above sentence. ☝️
This sentence was difficult for them because they had no idea what ‘trishaws’ meant. Well, I know its meaning - and then some!
Rickshaws were first invented by the Japanese. This random fact has been ingrained in my mind since I visited the Fukuoka Art Museum many years ago. The rickshaw later evolved to become a trishaw. Trishaws were reintroduced to Singapore during the Japanese Occupation. See more here: https://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/infopedia/articles/SIP_932_2005-01-24.html
This lesson activated happy memories of my travelling days in Japan, so I dug deep into the archives for photo documentation in regards to my riding on a trishaw. Can’t wait to share my handsome youthful self with them next Monday.
