Our place on the island of Samosir in Sumatra was quite typical for this region of Indonesia. Most of the bungalows are "Batak" style houses. Of course, these were not exact replicas, because in the past the roofs were not covered with corrugated iron, but the similarity is great.

Nasze lokum na wyspie Samosir na Sumatrze było dość typowe dla tego regionu Indonezji. Większość bungalowów bowiem na domy w stylu "Batak". Oczywiście nie były to wierne repliki, bo dawniej nie pokrywano dachów blachą falistą, niemniej podobieństwo jest duże.

The word "Batak" is closely related to Sumatra, because that was the name of the peoples inhabiting the island of Sumatra. They had their own language and writing and were closer to today's India. One of the 6 existing tribes was even called "Toba Batak", after the name of the lake in Sumatra - Lake Toba.

Słowo "Batak" jest ściśle związana z Sumatrą, gdyż tak nazywały się niegdyś ludy zamieszkujące wyspę Sumatra. Mieli własny język i pismo i bliżej im było do dzisiejszych Indii. Jedno z 6 istniejących plemion nazywało się nawet "Toba Batak", tak jak nazywa się jezioro na Sumatrze - Jezioro Toba.

The traditional Batak style house was built on stilts that prevented animals from entering the house and protected against flooding. the middle part of the house was both a kitchen and a living room, while the bedroom was usually at the top, on the next floor.

Tradycyjny do w stylu Batak zbudowany był na palach, które uniemożliwiały wejście do domu zwierzynie, i chroniły przed podtopieniami. środkowa część, domu była jednocześnie kuchnią i salonem, natomiast sypialnia znajdowała się zazwyczaj na samej górze, na kolejnym piętrze.
