What It's Like Walking Through Homestead Heritage Fair

Just a little over a week ago, Theresa, Hawthorne, and I left Texas and headed to our first Skooliepalooza event. Feel free to watch our YouTube short as we leave for Skooliepalooza South. Meanwhile ...

Back at the homestead (and I mean that literally) ....

Homestead Heritage is an off-grid Christian community focused on agrarian activities and craftsmanship. Their website says the group

stresses simplicity, sustainability, self-sufficiency, cooperation, service and quality craftsmanship. It also strives to live in peaceful coexistence with the land, other people and other faiths.

The community's 550-acre farm consists of several families with farm animals and crop harvesting. They grow wheat, oats, barley, corn, potatoes, sorghum, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Using old-fashioned gristmills and other primitive tools, they make their own products from grain-based foodstuff to syrup. These they consume within the community as well as sell in their community store.

Besides farming, the community takes up crafts, displays them, sells them, and teaches others how to create their own. This includes pottery, blacksmithing, cheese making, woodworking, making furniture, and fiber crafting such as knitting, spinning, and weaving.

The Homestead Heritage Fair is open three weekends in late November and early December near Waco, Texas. In 2021, Theresa and I visited the fair and provide a video tour for our YouTube fans. Check it out now!
