Summary

Twilight of the Gods is an 8 part TV series from Netflix based on Norse Mythology. Created by Jay Oliva and Zack Snyder, the story starts when Thor the god of thunder crashed a wedding and massacred the bride's giant clan. What follows is a revenge quest as the bride, Sigrid assembles a band to help her along with the god of deceit, Loki whom Thor was looking for in the bride's village. Her band is made up of interesting characters including a dwarf who has his own axe to grind against Loki and Loki himself who devised the incident as part of his own revenge plan against the Asgard gods (Aesir). Then there's the Vanir who have their own score to settle against the Aesir. It's a story with layers and layers of revenge plots.

Comment

I like a good revenge story as I enjoyed similar themes before like the classic "Count of Monte Cristo", "Kill Bill" or the current ones like "The Blue Eyed Samurai". At first, seeing it was animation I wanted to watch this with my kid but after I saw the first episode I was surprised with the violence, gore and s*x in this series. It reminded of Spartacus in Starz in 2010. The action sequences and the story is interesting to keep binging the series over the weekend. You want to keep watching to see the bride through on her quest. Also, each of the characters have their own backstory to keep you invested in them.

Christian Elements

I was surprised that Christian religion was inserted in this series but Zack Snyder is known for doing this like he did in Superman.

Conclusion

I enjoyed watching the series but I was not so happy in the last episode which seem to set up a season 2. In my opinion, the story should have ended there and let the bride and the viewers get the payoff or revenge she wanted. Instead, I was left unsatisfied in the ending and would have to see the next season where they take the story.
