Traveling in China

Hong Kong
Hong Kong is unexpectedly green, with many routes that can be done on the islands and a walk from which you can watch daily, from 8 pm, a 10 minute light show.

Taipei
The surprise of the holiday was Taipei, a city with few tourists, many beautiful places and a much more relaxed air than in mainland China. Taiwan is a mountainous island I would love to come back to, for the mountain scenery and the delicious food.

Shanghai
A commercial city, very busy, in which almost everything is new and is still being built. It is the only city in mainland China where Western influence is very visible everywhere, from buildings to food, shops and vague knowledge of English, which is completely lacking in the rest of China.

Useful applications

Offline map. REQUIRED, REQUIRED, REQUIRED! Google Maps does not work, so i used Maps.me is better, but in the first days I did not locate it on the map (sometimes it is hard to move and the GPS does not locate you immediately, I do not know why).

VPN. Many apps are blocked in mainland China (Gmail and Google Suite, Facebook). I accessed them by activating the VPN, I installed a free application, HighVPN, it worked fine.

The weather
I was at the end of July - the first part of August, the weather forecast was constantly raining, but it was a very bad forecast. Even on days when it was partly cloudy, when I was watching the weather on the phone I found out that it was actually raining, even if it wasn't raining outside. In three weeks it rained heavily on the first day in Beijing and we caught two short rains on the route.

In contrast, it was very hot, the honeysuckle, everywhere, from 32 ° C - 36 ° C upwards. In southern China, Hong Kong & Taipei the humidity is higher, so I always had the towels with me, I was licking all the time.

Safety
As far as security controls are in China, it is one of the safest countries I have been to: on the subway, in stations and at some major tourist objectives, luggage is scanned and body control is performed. Every time. In some cities, on the subway, they had a device with which they checked whether you had water (or coffee / juice) in the water bottle and nothing else; I don't know what the technology was, but they checked all the bottles.

There are smaller police stations everywhere, including in addition to sightseeing, and you can walk at night without worry, the Chinese see their work, nobody takes you on the street, there are cameras even in deserted places, and the streets are marked and illuminated.

Opinion
It is a safe country and they have a tolerant culture. Apart from that there are many places and things to see and experience, even to learn from them. The downside is that the sights are very crowded, especially the known ones, but there are many other less famous places where you feel relaxed, but it is harder to identify them, being foreign.
