Greece - Around Athens – Voula – Beaches: Pikpa Beach.

Around Athens - Voula - Pipka Beach

Pikpa beach is the first beach you will find in Voula. It is a very nice, yet small, sandy beach. This place used to be an organised beach but due to (political) issues it got abandoned by the owners and so became public again. That's the way I like it: beaches should belong to everybody. (that's also what the law writes).

By car, it is about 19km away from Athens (Syntagma square). Behind the beach there is very big, free, (unguarded) parking with hundreds of spots. The parking is surrounded with very big Eucalyptus trees so you will not find your car back as a 'dry hot Finnish sauna' after that refreshing swim you just had.

Pikpa Beach is also approachable by taking the tram line from the Syntagma square (the main square of Athens) towards 'Voula' . The station is called 'Ασκληπιείο Βούλας' (Asklipieio Voulas). Taking this line will lead you in about 1 hour to the beach. Be happy, you can't miss this station as it the end-station for line 5.

For the more 'sportive' people among us, this beach is also, in a safe way, approachable by bicycle. Next to the tram station, you will even find an ‘i-bike’ sharing station. "Get everywhere by bicycle".

Because of its shallow waters, and its very finest sand, this beach is very suitable for families with smaller children. They will enjoy themselves, for hours, building sand castles.

Please take into account that this beach, except for a small (improvisatory) beach bar, has no accommodation at all. So if there is anything you might need (drink, food, bed or umbrella) make sure you take it all with you!

As this beach is all naked, meaning without trees, you will need, for sure, an umbrella and a lot of sun cream (in the case you are sensitive to the sun). Temperatures can get very hot here.
