My luxury Canadian train tour for 60 hours

Introduction:

I embarked on an extraordinary adventure aboard Canada’s Greatest Train, “The Canadian,” which took me from Winnipeg to Vancouver over a span of 60 hours. The anticipation of exploring the wonders of this luxurious train filled me with excitement.

Winnipeg Union Station:

As I began my trip, I found myself at Winnipeg Union Station, the starting point of my expedition. From here, the train traversed the prairies of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, passed through the breathtaking Rocky Mountains of Alberta, and finally arrived on the picturesque west coast at Pacific Central Station in downtown Vancouver, Canada.

Ticket Options:

There were different ticket options available for passengers. The Economy class provided upright chairs with a semi-recline feature, though meals were not included and had to be purchased in the lounge car. On the other hand, the Sleeper Plus class offered comfortable accommodations along with free meals and beverages. For the ultimate luxury experience, the Prestige Class provided access to amenities such as TV, gourmet meals, and even a personal concierge.

My Booking:

I opted for a Lower berth at a discounted price of approximately 696 CAD (tax included). The Lower berth came with a window, so it could offer a better view compared to the Upper berth. Essential amenities such as towels, shampoo, soap, lotion, and earplugs were provided daily. However, electrical outlets were not available in the Upper/Lower berths, and passengers had to share the washroom and shower room within the car. Once the curtain was drawn, the berth provided a private space. In the morning, the crew would convert the berths into seats.

The Dining Car:

One of the highlights onboard was the dining car. All passengers from the Sleeper Plus class gathered here to enjoy their meals together. It was a fantastic opportunity to socialize and engage in conversations with other travelers. However, for those seeking a more solitary experience, it could be a bit overwhelming.

The Skyline Car & Viewing Deck:

The Skyline car offered a variety of board games such as scrabble, jigsaw puzzles, and chess. Passengers could indulge in these entertaining activities while taking in the scenic views passing by.

The Skyline car viewing deck provided unobstructed, panoramic views of the breathtaking surroundings by its full glass ceiling. It was a perfect spot to immerse oneself in the beauty of the journey and marvel at the ever-changing landscapes.

Park Car & Viewing Deck:

The Park car was another splendid area on the train. It offered comfortable leather couches equipped with power outlets on both sides, ensuring a cozy and convenient space for passengers. Additionally, the Park car featured a bar, where passengers, except those in the Prestige cabin, could enjoy alcoholic beverages for an additional charge. Moreover, the Park car had its own viewing deck, providing yet another vantage point to admire the awe-inspiring vistas.

Stunning Views:

Throughout the journey, I really enjoyed a plethora of stunning sights. From breathtaking sunrises and sunsets to observing the train gracefully moving across spectacular mountains, frozen lakes, snow-covered trees, and captivating cloud formations, each view was a feast for the eyes. I even caught a glimpse of a geyser, adding a touch of natural wonder to the experience.

Pacific Central Station in Vancouver:

Finally, I arrived at our destination, Pacific Central Station in Vancouver and it marked the end of this unforgettable trip. Reluctantly bidding farewell to this wonderful adventure, I couldn’t help but be grateful for the memories created.

This tour feels like a magnificent dream that I never want to end. Surprisingly, the Canadian train, known for its notorious delays, started off half a day behind schedule. However, against all odds, it managed to arrive at the destination earlier than expected. For me, it truly feels like a miraculous experience.
