The team at 2key.network have announced a new app called SmartSessions that will allow Zoom users to monetise their video calls using Ethereum smart contracts.
Available in Zoom's marketplace, SmartSessions will enable creators to accept cryptocurrency in payment for their conferencing and is seen as a welcome addition to Zoom's existing registration and payment management services.
Zoom Video Communications are a California-based $1.2 billion telecommunications company specialising in teleconferencing.
The recent lockdown and isolation of individuals due to the COVID-19 scare has seen a massive increase in the use of Zoom with even institutions like the UK Government turning to them in order to maintain some level of continuity despite concerns over potential security issues.
The company have been quick to counter those allegations and assure users of its suitability for individual, corporate or governmental use.
The developers of the app, 2key.network, suggest SmartSessions will improve efficiency of billing and payment options available on Zoom by dealing in cryptocurrencies.
Customers will be able to purchase cryptocurrency directly on the platform via a credit card and use that to but a place on a conference call of their choice.
The app also has a built-in referral element that allows those running a conference the chance to reward others who market their event. The host will be able to set the levels of reward.
For those interested, 2key.network are currently launching the pre-sale of their own native token (2KEY).
As always, this is not financial advice and you are recommended to do your own research (in cryptos, stocks, art, life partner, etc) before investing.
