Once Saved Always Saved Right?

By 072wxw | Today's Verse of the Day | 11 Dec 2024

Good morning, all!

Today's verse of the day is

John 15:5-8

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

This passage defeats the once saved always saved doctrine.  If Jesus is the vine and we are the branches, we are in the vine this means we are saved and are in God.  However, if we do not remain in God.  See what happens.  He is not talking about unbelievers here because they are not branches.  He is talking about those that know Him.  It is also re-iterated through scripture.  Woe to those who know God and then turn away!

Cross Ref 2 Peter 2:20-22

20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,”[a] and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”

Hmmm.... Worse off at the end...  Then they were at the beginning...  What do you think that means?

Cross Ref Hebrews 10:26-27

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

It shows that for them they will receive the same end as the enemies of God.
