The international police organization, INTERPOL, announced that it is launching the first ever law enforcement metaverse. We have seen metaverses being create for the purposes of commercial uses but never for policing.
INTERPOL's Metaverse
During the 90th General Assembly, INTERPOL launched this metaverse in the hopes of aiding its law enforcement officers around the globe. The metaverse uses INTERPOL's own secure cloud platform to ensure its security and neutrality and users of the metaverse can virtually take a tour of INTERPOL's HQ in Lyon, France. Users can also interact with INTERPOL officer using their avatars.
INTERPOL's Secretary General Jürgen Stock stated:
For many, the Metaverse seems to herald an abstract future, but the issues it raises are those that have always motivated INTERPOL – supporting our member countries to fight crime and making the world, virtual or not, safer for those who inhabit it.....
......We may be entering a new world, but our commitment remains the same.
Purposes of the Metaverse
- Facilitating collaboration between officers
- Simplifying networking
- Delivering trainings around the globe
- Collecting and preserving evidence from crime scenes
- Working remotely
- Increasing engagements and motivation of officers
Final Thoughts
It is always exciting to see the adoption of metaverse and Web3 technology but to see it being used by an international organization such as INTERPOL is really amazing. The benefits that are gain by adopting such technology are immense and I think organizations and corporations are realizing the values obtained by stepping towards them.
