Okay, so the elections are over. It's been a few days and the counting is all but done, winners especially in the local scene has been proclaimed. Losers have gone home to lick their wounds. Campaign materials are coming down, the blast of campaign jingles booming out of mega phones and whopping speakers will quit waking us up so early in the morning. Clean up has begun while the usual hubdub of election protesters are coming out of the woodworks. So what's new this election?
Not much, the vote still and has always been about popularity. The more popular candidates regardless of their sullied past have won. I'm not saying all the winners are sullied or have bad reps or that they won't do anything good for the people of the Philippines. They all have their own cross to carry, its a question now of how much of that cross they are willing to bear.
On a good note, I would like to think that some, if not all, voters have become wiser, as a few political dynasties have failed to grasp the people and some who were expected to win because of the name they carry, did not bear weight, though a few still made it through the seams.
I'm not at all happy with the turn out of the elections but I'm praying for the best. Praying that those elected into position will see the light and just work for the real good of the people and not for the good of a few. I pray that they find the strength to do what is right and to realize they owe the people and not the handful who supported them. I pray that they realize the value of the position they hold and that work with diligence, grace, integrity and honesty.
It is not yet over, the challenge has just begun... I pray you all elected officials are up to it! God bless the Philippines
