Canadian agri-industrial company AgriFORCE has launched its first cryptocurrency mining facility powered by flare gas in the province of Alberta.
The facility is located in the town of Berwyn. In the first deployment phase, its capacity reached 425 kW. The farm is equipped with 120 Bitmain S21 ASIC miners, with a total hashrate exceeding 32 PH/s. In the second phase, the company will add another 200 kW.
The firm has also signed an agreement with BlueFlare. It provides for the addition of an extra 1.3 MW of capacity at two new sites in the same province. The infrastructure can be used for mining, AI computing, and other tasks.
“We are not waiting for permits or grid upgrades — we turn gas into computing power in weeks, not years,” said AgriFORCE CEO Jolie Kahn.
The company plans to increase its hashrate to 0.5 EH/s by the end of 2025. The goal for the first quarter of 2026 is 1 EH/s.
AgriFORCE has already mined 7 BTC worth about $735,000 at its facilities in Alberta and Ohio.
According to its strategy, the company may retain up to half of the mined coins in reserve. The rest will be used to expand operations. The company may also allocate up to 50% of raised capital to directly purchase bitcoin.
As a reminder, in May 2024, U.S. miner Genesis Digital Assets opened a data center in Argentina to mine the leading cryptocurrency using energy from flare gas combustion.
