Many people quote the Bible saying “Money is the root of all evil”. Here are a couple of translations of what 1 Timothy 6:10 actually says.
"For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil..."
- NASB20"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil..."
- NKJV
This passage says "The LOVE of MONEY" (Not money itself) "is a root of all kinds of evil". Another way to say this could be to covet money leads to all kinds of evil.
When people say money is the root of all evil what they are essentially saying is that money is bad. In fact, money is just a tool. It’s a tool to get the things you need, want, or have the ability to help others. It’s the attitude towards the money or what the money is used for that can be evil. It is not the money itself.
Thebalance.com talks about the negative effects of thinking money is bad.
"By internalizing negative ideas about money, you might be setting yourself up for financial stress."
"Our behaviors and thoughts are linked, and by developing healthier thought patterns, you may create healthier financial behaviors."
This is something to consider. If our mindset influences our lives concerning money, then it might behoove us to re-evaluate our thoughts about money.
