This is a recipe for the style of Grilled Cheese sandwich I grew up eating. I always thought everyone made them this way until I was at a restaurant and I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. It wasn't something I would normally order as an adult, but I did that day.
I was shocked when the food came and it was just dry bread with Velveeta. The plainest sandwich I have ever seen. I was told by the person with me that this was normal grilled cheese. As I was thinking about this experience today, I decided to share it with my readers. I hope you try one and that you enjoy it!
Warm up your frying pan to between medium and medium-high like normal (you know... whatever the sweet spot is for making grilled cheese). While your pan is warming, spread Miracle Whip on both slices of bread, then add chopped onion and Cheddar cheese (I use slices, but shredded works too). Put the sandwich together and butter the top of the sandwich and put it butter side down in your hot frying pan. While in the pan butter the second side. Flip it over when it is nice and brown and then brown the other side.
This is how I like them, but for you adventurous types, you could add extras like peppers.
Enjoy!
