TV shows and movies make it appear that most people believe that when we die we become angels. I don’t know how many people actually believe this, after all, Hollywood tends to promote ideas as though we all think a certain way which can be far from reality. So, I am writing my opinion on this subject. I am not trying to be offensive. Just explaining the way I understand it. If I am wrong you are welcome to show me why.
I don’t believe that scripture supports the idea of people becoming angels when they die. The Bible says that we are made in the image of God.
Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness’…”
Is there any place in the Bible that says angels are made in His image? The Bible also says that in the resurrection we are LIKE the angels in that we do not marry.
Matthew 22:30 - “For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Luke 20:34-36 - Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
My conclusion… we do not become angels.
