Excel spreadsheet, Text hinting on the use of the stats

Will stats tell us when it is best to post? Lets look at Publish0x´s stats.

I know I just did a post yesterday on the wonderful stats I was able to find at the blog of fellow writer: excelencia. But I could not help myself. So I dove in and collected al the stats that where available. And then I started to look it over to try and see if I could discern any patterns. Oh I almost forgot. If you want to take a look at my previous post about me trying to better understand the inner workings of Publish0x then you can find them here:

Publish0x, do the title of your article matter?

Using stats to try and better understand Publish0x

Now that we have that settled. We can take a look at the stats I collected. I have put them into a spreadsheet so we more easily can digest them.

To explain the stats a little. First I want to let you know that I have removed the total amount tipped on two days. They are marked * respectively **. The reason for excluding them was that they deviated way to much from the normal numbers. I would consider them statistical outliers. And a very likely reason for them would be that winners of a competition where payed on that day. Especially for April 5th, where the total tipped was $1319. And in case you did not know, if you are the winner of a writing competition, you get payed your winnings by them tipping your winning article.

What we can start to discern is a sort of orange reddish pattern during the weekend. This is indicative of less activity and fewer persons who are reading and tipping writers. The same appears to also be true for every other Monday. So are Mondays and weekends bad days to publish posts on?

Well here is the part that gets interesting. From a engagement perspective. It is clear that the numbers of readers are fewer during the weekend. The same goes for the number of tips and the tips total value. So from that perspective publishing an article on the weekend appears to be a bad decision. But if we look at the number of articles posted. You will see that this also goes down during the weekend. So if we look at the total amount of tips generated and divide that by the number of posts. This shows an entirely different picture. If we look at the average amount of tips per post for the weekend this is $1.55. And then we look at the same number for the days that are mostly green, Tuesday to Friday. These days have an average of only $1.22 tips generated per post. This paints a very contrasting picture. Now suddenly the weekend becomes the clear winner and obvious choice for when to publish your posts.

The conclusion after this. Well the biggest conclusion I would say is that with statistic you can show anything you want. ^^ But regarding when to post. I would say, if your solely interested in maximizing your tip. I would target my best post for a weekend lance date. As there appear to be more tips available then per article. So in a sense less competition if you will. And if you are looking to maximize your number of views, and build your following. Then I would recommend targeting Tuesday to Fridays for you best posts. Mondays still appear to be just a bad ish day.

Well let me know in the comments if this has changed your opinion on when the best time and day to post is. I hope this post at the very least have been entertaining to read.

Until the next time, as always take care and have a great day. And if you want to support me and the content I make pleas consider reading my other posts in my two blogs. You can find them here and here.
