A Social Media Has Fallen

By AndersonFrancis | TheVisionary 7 | 20 Nov 2020

You know I kinda just started out with the use of our beloved catch phrase "social media" during that period I had the opportunity of knowing a platform called "Eskimi".

This took place during the reign of the somewhat famous "Blackberry".

Eskimi was like a game forum social media. It had, "war games"; think RP(Role Play). It had "love game" or "match game"; where you are given a picture of a lady, then being asked a couple of questions, like; "would you run away for a weekend with her?" or "would you notice her in the street?" And whatnot.

There were a ton of things to do, maybe it wasn't all that advanced like Facebook and co, but it was pretty amazing too, it also had regular find a friend like Facebook and a regular friend chat up like...Facebook.

It gives you a couple of coins each time you log in after 24 hours. The coins you get, you use them to buy war equipments or to send a beautiful rose to a pretty lady or any other cool stuffs. You can get a couple of those cool stuffs. However these stuffs are not tangible, somewhat inanimate; more like Facebook sort of stickers.

Regardless it had some pretty amazing functions which are indeed unforgettable. Now with all these functions and much more; like most good things; must come to an end.

That's where this article is driving to. I received an email; well who reads his/her mail these days, not to talk of when you are not quite expecting one. I checked it and saw something quite countenance dropping.

This is what it said;

More than 10 years ago Eskimi Social was born and it was quite a ride! We grew to 25 million users in MENA and APAC regions alone and became one of the top sites in Africa surpassing even Facebook and Google in 2013. We gained experience that will surely be implemented in our projects to come. But all good things must come to an end, as they say! We are closing Eskimi Social.

In the upcoming 2 weeks the network will still run - you will have time to read messages, exchange contacts if you'd like with other users. After those 2 weeks pass, Eskimi Social will no longer be available.

For all those who have engaged one way or the other with this amazing platform with a bright future; sorry to tell you that, it's over.

This makes me remember when my dad once made a statement, " Once a company has survived 10 years, it has indeed become a solid biz. But this one has been over ten years and yet look at it. Was the statement wrong, eh! No! But it just proves a solid point that nobody knows where tomorrow may lead him or her.

In their final words to me this was what the mail said.

"We are more than happy you used our platform and let it grow to millions of users worldwide! Our whole team thanks you for this journey."

Thanks for the read! Cheers!!
