What Happens When Everyone Is “Early”?
Crypto loves one word more than almost anything else:
Early.
Every new project seems to have someone saying:
“We're still early.”
You see it on X.
You see it in Telegram groups.
You see it under posts about coins that have already gone up 300%.
And sometimes I wonder...
If everyone knows they're early, are we actually early anymore?
“You're Still Early”
It's one of the easiest things to believe in crypto.
A project has a small community. The token isn't well known. The price is tiny.
Someone discovers it and says:
“This is the next big thing.”
Then 500 people repeat it.
Then 5,000.
Then suddenly everyone's talking about how early they are.
There's something funny about that.
The word “early” starts meaning less and less the more people use it.
Crypto Is Built Around Finding Things First
That's part of what makes the market so addictive.There's always another coin.
Another narrative.
Another project nobody has heard of yet.
And there's always someone who bought before everyone else noticed.
That creates a strange psychological game.
Nobody wants to be the person who discovers something after it becomes popular.
Everyone wants to be able to say:
“I was here before the crowd.”
And honestly, I get it.
There's something satisfying about finding something before everyone starts talking about it.
But Here's the Weird Part
Being early isn't automatically good.
You can be extremely early to something that goes nowhere.
You can also discover something after it becomes popular and still be there for a much bigger part of its story.
That's why “early” by itself doesn't really tell you much.
Early compared with what?
The technology?
The users?
The market?
The previous cycle?
The price?
The attention?
Those are completely different clocks.
Everyone Wants the Same Story
This might be my favorite part.
Imagine a room with 100 people.
Everyone believes they're early.
Nobody thinks they're the late buyer.😂
But somebody eventually has to buy after somebody else.
That's the uncomfortable part of markets.
Everyone can believe in the same future.
Everyone can be excited.
Everyone can post rocket emojis.
But the market doesn't care about the story everyone agrees on.
Eventually, reality gets a vote.
Maybe “Early” Isn't the Point
I've started thinking about the word differently.
I don't really care whether something is called early anymore.
I'd rather ask:
“What is actually happening here?”
Is something genuinely growing?
Is attention increasing?
Are people using it?
Is the project changing?
Or are thousands of people simply repeating that they're early because they don't want to feel late?
That's a very different question.
And maybe that's the funniest thing about crypto.
Everyone wants to be early.
But nobody wants to admit when the party has already started.
