Theta intro's Livestream support via Theta Video API
What - Yesterday Theta released 'Theta Video API' (AKA TVA) into beta support (June '22). TVA allows easy integration of Video livestreaming into any Application and Website. The API then leverages the Theta Node node network for streaming out the Video to those that want to watch it, bypassing the current CDN operators. And opens the doors for Theta DRM on the livestreams and protection of intellectual capital.
TVA components
- Dashboard - where you launch your livestream from
- API - integration point(s)
- Integration with your OBS
Where - Beta starts in USA initially then across other geographic areas in short order this year.
Why - to bring decentralized livestreaming to any Website or Application. This fits into Theta's goal of not competing directly with YouTube and other content delivery networks (CDN). Theta's approach, to change the game under the noses of the CDN leaders and I suspect a large number of Websites will incorporate this API quickly. I wonder if Theta will publish API usage numbers (for good or poor adoption rates?)
Who has adopted TVA already?
- OpenTheta also deployed Theta's DRM concurrently with TVA offering
- Passaways
- Rewarded TV

Short Term Roadmap - Theta will add TVA encoding into Theta Elite Edge Nodes allowing them to perform commercial video encoding jobs. Think massive earnings potential for these elite edge node owners!
Summary - more decentralization only aids Theta adoption and that is why we are all here; right? This also solidifies Theta's Web 3.0 vision that anyone can and will be able to livestream and bypass the current CDN content monitoring that takes place.
