The Golden Age Is Slowing Down

The IT industry grew explosively for two decades. Companies were desperate for developers. Salaries skyrocketed.

That era is fading. Not because IT is dying, but because the market is maturing. It‘s becoming like other industries — competitive, demanding, and less forgiving.

AI Is Changing the Job, Not Killing It

AI can write boilerplate code. It can debug simple errors. It can even design basic systems.

But it can‘t understand business goals. It can‘t communicate with clients. It can‘t make strategic decisions.

AI won‘t replace developers. But developers who use AI will replace those who don‘t.

The Bar Is Higher Now

Ten years ago, knowing HTML and CSS could get you a job. Today, you need much more: algorithms, system design, databases, security.

The bar has risen. And it will keep rising.

Salaries Are Stabilising

Tech salaries grew faster than almost any other industry. But that pace can‘t continue forever.

We‘re seeing salaries stabilise — still high, but not growing at 20% per year. This is normal. Every industry goes through this.

New Opportunities Will Appear

Every technological shift creates new jobs. When the web exploded, web developers appeared. When mobile exploded, app developers appeared.

AI will create new roles we can‘t even imagine yet. Maybe prompt engineers. Maybe AI ethicists. Maybe something else entirely.

It Depends on Where You Are

In the US and Europe, IT will remain a solid career. In countries with lower labour costs, competition will be fiercer.

Globalisation means you‘re not just competing with your neighbours — you‘re competing with the world.

The Real Question

Will IT be profitable in 10 years? Probably yes. But not for everyone.

It will be profitable for those who keep learning, adapt to new tools, and solve real problems. It will not be profitable for those who expect easy money.

And like any profession, it rewards those who take it seriously. If you‘re here only for the money, you‘ll struggle. If you‘re here because you love building things, you‘ll be fine."
