What is CryptoTab and What is Browser Mining?

What in the World is CryptoTab?

Most of us here on Publish0X have heard of (or use) the Brave Browser, which rewards users in Basic Attention Token (BAT) monthly in exchange for pushing advertisements. However, it seems that not as many people have heard of CryptoTab, which is another browser that rewards users. So, what in the world is CryptoTab?

CryptoTab is built on Chrome's source code, and is able to mine Bitcoin (Well, it mines Monero and exchanges it for Bitcoin) using your computer's CPU. It can also be installed on iOS and Android devices. However, unlike cloudmining platforms, CryptoTab requires you to keep a tab open to mine for coins, and uses power to mine on your hardware. Additionally, because CryptoTab is built on Google Chrome, it is usually an update or two behind Chrome.

Okay, so... It's just another browser mining. Big whoop. What's special about CryptoTab?

Aside from simply mining from your browser, CryptoTab allows you to invite other users and you'll earn 15% of the cryptocurrency mined by your referral. However, ontop of that, the referral of your referral will also earn you 10% of the cryptocurrency they mine. Essentially, the referrals of referrals can net YOU earnings up to the 10th level of your network (Though you'll only earn 0.0625% of the cryptocurrency your 10th level referral earns). In other words, the more people you invite, the much more income you'll receive! Additionally, while mining, you can adjust your mining speeds to optimize performance.

Neat! There's gotta be drawbacks here. Spill it!

Obviously, mining is energy intensive and you'll need to spend money on electricity. While mining, there could be temporary decreases in performance as computing power is directed to mining. Additionally, long-term intensive mining on a device could affect battery life or performance. Without inviting more people, you'll almost certainly end up spending more money on energy than you'll earn in Bitcoin. The only way you'll actually make profit is if you expand your mining network by referring people to join and they also do the same. However, because CryptoTab is free to use and you're not trying to sell any products to people you refer, it isn't a Ponzi or Pyramid scheme. You'll only be paid when you personally mine or someone you refer mines.

What's the minimum payout and how much can I make?

CryptoTab's minimum payout is just 0.00001 Bitcoins, which is roughly 23 US cents as of writing this article. After several days of mining at low intensity on my computer, I was able to cash out. Because I wanted to make sure that the platform actually pays and is legitimate, I did not refer any friends or people from social media platforms yet. While I definitely did not make enough money to cover my energy costs, I have seen people on the internet and friends using CryptoTab as a passive income source, making several dollars a day due to their very extensive mining networks.

Final Verdict - to use or not to use?

CryptoTab is definitely a browser that pays, but doesn't pay well unless you have a very extensive mining network. Ontop of that, it could result in higher energy bills, damaged devices, and other mining-related expenses. Personally, my experience with CryptoTab is not the best: Because I have an older computer running a older generation I7 chip, my mining performance was... Pathetic... To say the least. Ontop of that, when I tried to mine on high performance, other programs I tried to use started lagging. In other words, I think that without a strong mining network, I will definitely earn more on Brave Browser, and also not risk any damage to my computer. On the other hand, a close friend of mine (who actually referred me) has been able to earn about $2 US dollars a day without even mining himself after he expanded his mining circle, and if you as me, a bonus $2 a day over the course of a year really adds up!

If you think you'll be able to build a strong mining network, have low electricity cost, want to learn a bit more about Cryptocurrency, or simply want to earn a few Satoshis, CryptoTab may be for you! However, because of my smaller social circle and high electricity cost, CryptoTab is personally not the best browser for me.
