In 2020 we saw a lot of really crazy things happen. I wonder what 2021 will hold. One of the biggest things in the crypto world was a seeming unstoppable bull run with Bitcoin at the end of the year. Even into the start of 2021 we are seeing BTC passing 41k so it will be no surprise when we see a 50k price.
I am passionate about different investment vehicles and I have really diversified into some pretty cool alternative classes. I have livestock investments, investments in cosmetic companies, even a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) which specialized in expendable airplane parts.
One thing I have stayed away from is investing in stocks. That is not to say that I do not own any. I have IRAs and 401ks as well as a small E-trade portfolio. I had been a long term hold kind of guy but I am now interested in looking into some of the potential IPOs that we might be seeing in 2021.
Let’s face it, we saw some IPOs blow up like Airbnb, Doordash, and even Palantir. I missed everyone of those but what about the rumors of a Robinhood IPO in 2021? There have been some reports of the platform partnering with Goldman Sachs. I have no inside info on if that IPO would ever come to fruition but there is some talk about it on the interwebs.

There was a Reuters report that said the IPO would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $12 billion but the actual valuation was closer to $20 billion which certainly is interesting.
I think regardless of the pandemic situation the world was ready for an app that would do exactly what Robinhood does. Although I have some doubts about the legitimacy of Robinhood. I have no empirical data or proof to back it up but I suspect the app makes money by slightly delaying trades. But that is not the focus of this article.
In conclusion we are not certain there will be a Robinhood IPO and we are even less certain of what the IPO price would be. I think there is some potential for some money to be made if they do launch an IPO. I will be waiting and if I have some freed up capital I might look into this with a high level of interest.
Would you be interested in a Robinhood IPO?
Did you take advantage of any of the other IPOs mentioned? If so, how did you do?
