In the world of Cryptocurrency, it doesn't get more wholesome than the rising 'meme-coin' Banano - but don't be fooled! Banano may look like a meme-coin on the surface, but it's actually disrupting the meme economy with improvements built upon the Nano protocol with a goal of acting as a on-ramp for educating new people to the Cryptosphere. Mining, obviously, is a huge component of Crypto and is notably lacking in the Nano protocol. How can Banano educate new users of Crypto on Mining if it doesn't exist? To combat this issue, the Banano developers created an amazing initiative to 'mine' Banano by donating computing power to a protein folding program called Folding At Home (F@H) which helps develop vaccines for Covid-19 and other diseases. You use your computer or GPU in the same way you'd mine any other coin, gaining points for F@H, with one huge caveat; the Banano team has generously set aside a huge fund to reward people for doing so. If you want to get in on the fun - look no further than this guide! Lets get started
*Of note is that you don't need a GPU to run Folding@Home, you can use your CPU but it won't generate as many points.
1 - Download and set up a Banano wallet (Skip this step if you already have an address)
- I recommend Kalium
2 - Go to bananominer.com and enter your address into their prompt. Write down the result
- The weird name you get IS your name in F@H, don't change it to something you like better or you won't get any Banano
3 - This step is optional, but if you want more points, go to https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey and enter your name from Step 2 and email address to receive a key. This will increase the amount of points your miner generates.
4 - Head to https://foldingathome.org/#downloads and download the app for your respective operating system
5 - If it doesn't open automatically after installation, go to https://client.foldingathome.org/
6 - Enter your credentials from Steps 2-3 under 'Change identity'
7- Click on 'Start Folding' and you're good to go! You should start receiving Banano airdrops every 12 hrs or so
