The artwork accompanying this blog post was created from an excerpt of my short story "Weakest Link". Here's that section:
"Betrayal. That was the slab of marble he had to work with. He chipped away at the marble, stealing the organization's time & resources to create his David. It took Michelangelo two years to bring out David from the marble. He had less than two days."
I am excited about the ability to create art using Artificial Intelligence, specifically, text-to-image tools. I have been working on The Shenganiguns project since 2015. It is a dysfunctional rock band from near-future Kenya, which presents both opportunities and challenges. One challenge is that producers generally like to play it safe. I am well aware that The Shenganiguns project does not fit into the generally accepted boxes of what is "produce-able" and I am prepared for this project to never be "produced" in the conventional sense of the world. However, this does not mean that the project will be sitting on a shelf somewhere gathering dust.
I repeat. I am excited about the ability to create art using Artificial Intelligence, specifically, text-to-image tools, because this is yet another way for The Shenganiguns project to keep alive and to come alive. Apart from five short film scripts I wrote in 2015, I have written more than 10,000 words of different short stories centering around this dysfunctional band, their fans, their staff and generally, the universe of the story. Tools such as nightcafe.studio enable outlier writers like myself to take back some control of the production process. It will be great if The Shenganiguns project or parts of it are produced in the traditional sense but meanwhile, I'm going to work and play with Artificial Intelligence tools to keep the dream alive!
