Sliced Dragon Fruit

Here is a short summary of my recently published blog post at thescinote.xyz.:

•Dragon Fruit spoils very fast, however a study from the Philippine Journal of Crop Science aims to solve this problem by wrapping the fruit with plastic and a chemical called, Polyethylene.

•The study claims that the method used in their research fruit remained in excellent condition for up to 6 weeks at 5 °C without any shrivelling thus fruits were firm, and bracts (the green scale feature) remained green.

•Results also show that the Dragon Fruit can lasts from October (which is the fruit’s season) up to December where it becomes expensive.

•Uses a process called Modified Atmospheric Packaging which is done by wrapping the fruit with plastic and Polyethylene. The fruit is also stored in a cold place.

•Can be done at home with professionals.
