Coin Hunt World: Let's Strategize

By Brien McCurdy | The Random Hobbiest | 17 Jul 2021

In one of my other posts I talked about how I found a game called Coin Hunt World and did a test to see how much crypto I could earn in a month with little effort. Since then, I've talked to others that have played the game longer, listened to their advice, asked plenty of questions and came up with a few ways to maximize your potential crypto earnings.

If you are new to the game there are plenty of resources and walk-throughs of the game to give you a good understanding of game play. I'm not really going to go over those but more focus on an approach to the game that could accelerate your crypto earnings. If you are new or just interested there is plenty of information about the game on the wiki.

Basics Of The Game

Before we dive into the strategies of the game let's go over the basics of the game.

The game is a Geo Location game sorta like Pokemon Go, except Pokemon Go never paid you to play. The idea is to get out in the real-world, find key booths and collect keys. These keys come in different colors and each color key unlocks the same colored vault. In other words, blue keys unlock blue vaults, green keys unlock green vaults, etc. Different colored vaults will pay out different amounts of crypto and resources, ranging from $.10 - $1,000.

When you find and unlock a vault you are presented with 4 trivia categories. You select a category and are then given a multiple choice trivia question, answer the question correctly and you win Bitcoin and/or Ether. The vaults will also randomly give you other in-game resources such as paint, resin, cubie blueprints, etc. Resin and keys are the currency of the game, they can be used  to build your own User Vaults, link to an Uphold account to transfer your crypto out of the game, print different cubies, buy items from the in-game store, etc.

So not only do we want to collect as much crypto as possible, we also want to collect as many keys and resin as possible as well. Ok, so totally confused yet? Good. The strategies listed below are in no particular order unless I've explicitly mentioned in what order to do it, there is also no guarantee that following any of these will yield more crypto or put you in the #1 slot in the Leaderboards.

Referral Links

Referral links allow you to invite others to the game and you can collect bonuses when those new players create an account and perform other  in-game actions. The person using your referral code will also receive two free green prize boxes when they create their account, but they must use the referral code before creating their headquarters (HQ). If you have someone's referral link you will want to use it before building your HQ. If you don't have one you can use mine here: https://coinhunt.gsc.im/9nsYDUyvCz

The more people you invite to the game using your referral code the more bonuses you will get, so get as many people interested as possible and share that referral code.

Everyone Needs a HeadQuarters

You will want to create your headquarters (HQ) pretty early in the game. Currently, it requires 1 green key to create it. You can forge 10 blue keys to make 1 green one, don't worry you'll collect many blue keys along the way and having an HQ is well worth the expense of 10 blue keys.

Your HQ is only visible on the map by you and no one else, so place it somewhere close by that you can easily access multiple times a day.

The HQ is where any packages with prizes are delivered, you can access the in-game shop, unlock user vaults, and collect mystery boxes that contain random prizes. So make sure you get that HQ created some place convenient soon.

Mystery Boxes

Mystery boxes are delivered to your HQ 3 times a day at very specific times based on your timezone. I'm in the US on the east coast so I get a mystery box at midnight, 8am, and 4pm. The boxes do not stack, so if you miss one there won't be two waiting for you. The nice thing about the specific times is that I don't have to stay up all night waiting for that box to drop at midnight.  I get up every morning around 7am to get ready for work, so I have plenty of time to get that box before the next one drops at 8am. These boxes contain a random prize and can be anywhere from 2 blue keys to 5000 resin. So make sure you check often and collect as many of these mystery boxes as possible.

User Vaults

A user vault (UV) is a vault owned by a player. Each player can unlock up to 10 UVs from their HQ and place them anywhere they think will get a lot of use. It does require a green key to unlock each UV, then once unlocked and placed will require 10,000 resin to complete each one. The resin price tag may seem kinda high, but there are some benefits to placing UVs.

For every 20 keys that unlock one of your UVs you get 1 of those keys, plus every time someone answers the trivia question correctly you also get leaderboard points. User Vaults also typically pay out better, and yes you can visit your own UVs so even if you are the only one using them you'll get better rewards and still get some of your keys back.

With the price of resin being 10k per UV before it is open for business, you can and should unlock all 10 UVs and place them in a location you feel will get a lot of traffic as soon as you can. Once you have "staked your claim" by placing a UV, even though you may not have resin to open it yet, this is still a very important step as it secures your location so others playing don't get the same idea as you and take all the good spots.

At the time of this writing, the game is freshly out of beta so getting your UVs placed should be top priority before the user base grows too much. A few tips on placement:

  • Unlock and place your UVs as soon as you can
  • Place your UVs close to someone else's
  • Create a hotspot or cluster of UVs, this will make it an attractive spot for players too quickly and easily visit a lot of vaults.
  • Place UVs close to shopping, places good for sightseeing and have a lot of foot traffic and easily accessible by the general public.
  • Don't get too close to an existing blue vault (non user vault). If you are too close to an existing standard blue vault your UV will replace it on the map, this means no one including you will get any resources from that location till your UV is completed. So maximize your resources by getting close so that there are multiple vaults near that location but don't replace one.
  • Help contribute resin to UVs owned by other players. This will open that location faster, which will pay out better than a standard vault, you will receive leaderboard points for helping, and have more locations to hunt from.

Getting the Right Answer

If you are not doing this already you definitely want to start, when prompted with a trivia question that you are not 100% sure of the answer use Google. Most questions you can ask Google and get the right answer. Some questions may be worded in a way that doesn't make searching the answer easy in those cases it may be a guessing game, which you have a 1 in 4 shot at getting it right. Of course the more valuable the vault, yellow, red, purple, the more you want to ensure you answer correctly the first time.

If you get a question wrong, don't fret, while you may be out that key you can sit there and keep opening the same vault until you answer a question correctly.

Make Lots of Friends

Having a friend in the game will allow you to be eligible for Buddy Quests (BQ). A BQ is an event where you and one of your friends in the game have to go to a specific location on the map at the same time. The location for each person is randomly located within a 3mi radius of their HQ. The spot will be identified as a seesaw. Once you and your friend are both at the selected location you will each be given a yellow key.  Yellow keys can be used for either in-game purchases in the shop or used to open yellow vaults. If you open a yellow vault and guess the trivia question successfully you get $10 worth of crypto.  So you want to collect lots of yellow keys.

Friends do not need to be in the same geographical location as you are, the only important bit is that your friends are active players and you can both go to the location at the same time. The best way to coordinate is to use the game's discord chat to message each other and plan your quest. You do get a week to complete the BQ, so if you or your friend can't get free at the same time on day one don't worry you'll have a couple other days to get it done. The sooner you complete it and get your yellow key the sooner you will be eligible to do another one so don't delay.

When Should You Go Hunting

Really anytime you are out and about is a good time to check the map and see whats around you, you never know what you'll find. Each colored vault is worth a different amount of crypto if you answer the question correctly, for example blue vaults will yield roughly $.10 in crypto. One of the questions I had early on was if this amount was fixed or did it fluctuate with the markets, I couldn't really find a straight answer anywhere other than how much each color of vault should pay out.

I started tracking how much each vault of the same color was giving me in crypto and how much it was worth at the time I received it. After a couple weeks of tracking it I found that the game does indeed adjust how much crypto to gives out based on what the market is doing. What this means is:

Play more aggressively when the markets are down!

When the price of BTC or ETH drops the game pays you more in those cryptos. This means when the market comes back up your $.10 vault prize could turn into a lot more!

Vaults will reset at particular times after you have successfully answered the trivia question. Blue vaults reset at 12n and 12p UTC, green vaults are once a day and yellow once a week on Mondays. So you want to get out in the morning and collect some, such as on your way to work then again in the afternoon when the vaults have reset. This allows you to hit the same blue vaults twice a day.

Happy Hour, Let's Party!

Happy Hour is a new feature of the game, where a random hour each day is chosen and during that hour a particular category is boosted to pay out more than normal. The very first one or two I quickly got up and went out and opened as many vaults as I could and never found the selected category so I missed out on the benefits.

I can't remember who I talked to that gave me this strategy but I intend to try it out and see how well it works. If I find who mentioned it I'll update this post and give credit.

You want to make sure you join the game's Discord server as many people will announce when it's happy hour, this is a great way to get notified without needing to check every hour.

During the happy hour event, make sure you have plenty of blue keys, find a blue vault and open it. The boosted category will be highlighted, if you don't see it, select a random category and answer the question wrong. You can keep using the same vault over-and-over until you answer it correctly and collect your winnings. Using this strategy you will more than likely burn through a few blue keys but the idea is to increase the chances of finding the boosted category and collecting its payout per vault location faster than driving all over the place and not finding any.

Where To Go Looking

When you are first starting out it can seem random of where to look to find keys and vaults. They are both typically located near businesses, just about every fast-food place will have one, shopping centers, etc. But of course before you just run out the door you may want to get together an idea of where to go. Some of the devs have created a community map that accepts user submissions.

The community map is great for locating where there are more vaults and resources but also great for submitting the location of vaults so you can later reference where you found them. When you are out hunting you always want to make good use of your time, especially during happy hour, and go to where you'll find the most vaults.

On your mobile, go to the map and create a shortcut on your home screen of your mobile device. This will allow you to quickly submit new locations when you find them.

Cashing Out of the Game

The game gives you the ability to link to an Uphold account, once linked the game will automatically transfer any crypto you collected to your Uphold account every Tuesday. This is a nice feature as you don't have to remember to transfer it periodically, it'll just automagically happen. To link your Uphold account will require 10,000 resin to activate this feature. While many new players want to hurry up and link their account you shouldn't rush to do so.

Your winnings will be held in the game until you link your Uphold, it isn't going anywhere and the amount you have already collected won't change so there is no reason to rush. Use the resin to get all your UVs opened up and active before linking your Uphold account. Besides, if your still new and haven't collected much crypto yet you probably won't be doing anything with small amounts other than HODL your coins.

These are a few of the game strategies I've collected since I started playing. When I first started, and I did not use any of these strategies, I collected about $40 worth of crypto. By using these strategies and playing more aggressively I plan to turn that $40 a month into more than $200 a month. Hopefully you find some of these helpful and enables you to enjoy the game and be more productive while you are playing.

If you have any other game strategies that you use feel free to mention them in the comments section. Also if your an active player and looking for people to do BQs, drop me a friend request.

I've added a Part Two to this list, be sure to check it out!
