A Nice Little Caribou Coin

A Nice Little Caribou Coin

Today I have for you a 1968 25 cents Canadian coin with a beautiful Caribou on the front.

For anyone that doesn't know, 25 cents equals a quarter which makes sense. I am still trying to get round all the names for the coins that side of the pond so I am also learning with you.

## Time for a breakdown of exactly what this coin is

Reverse of the coin: Queen Elizabeth II with another beautiful portrait of her.
Year: 1968
Value: 25 cents
Currency: Dollar
Silver: 50%
Weight: 5.05g
Diameter: 23.88mm

When these were released they were produced with Nickle or Silver and copper. The silver and copper was a 50/50 mix of the metals. These were tested before they were sent to me, but for practice I ran them with a magnet and we are looking good.

The coin is in very good condition and is a great addition to my growing coin collection. Sadly my current storage box is now to small for all of these so I shall be buying a new one shortly to store them all in. Less squishy for them and less chance of me damaging them I hope.

I have noticed that they do love writing Canada over the front of their coins which I am assuming is to stop confusion with the USA's coins. But that I have not been able to find out just yet.

The coin was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint of Ottawa. Looks like they have been producing coins since 1908 which is pretty cool when I think about it.

The Precious Metal Stacking Journey

Time to document the Journey that I started in March 2024. Precious metals is the goal at the end of the day. I Planned to start with silver, and if I do well move into gold.
