We are slow-travelers and this is our P.O.V.
For most travel is a two-week vacation with the family somewhere that leave one tired and ready to go back to work to rest. Most spend their time at a rocket pace, trying to see and do everything. It shouldn’t be this way. A vacation is supposed to be enjoyed, not a race.
The average family spend between $300 to $500 per day while on vacation. A 10-day vacation that add up to $3000 to $5000 spend in one location. Not counting travel fare. The slow-traveler spends less, but still spend more that the average local person.
A slow traveler is a person that stay in a location longer than the average vacationer, 30 days or more.
The advantage of slow traveling is getting lower rates on accommodations, cause of longer stay. Travel to the area that not popular with foreign tourist, but popular with the local tourist (tourist from the same country) area for lower prices. Learning more about the local culture. Traveling at a slower pace and enjoying life more.
Let’s face it, in most tourist area prices are jacked. Stores and restaurants cater to tourist, the people from out of town. Slow travelers learn a little more about the people and the area than the average travelers. One way to say it is the slow traveler ‘Travel the road less travel’.
Most times it best to move a few blocks away from an area for better price for accommodations and food/restaurants. Some of the best local food that we have enjoyed in our travel have been 3 to 6 blocks away from a tourist area. The locals know what good and where.
The trade-off is normally the cost of ride vs the cost of staying in an area.
Most of the time we will rent an apartment vice a hotel room. For us an apartment offer more privacy, better internet, more affordable accommodation. One might could call this type of apartment, apart-hotel. Like a hotel, apart-hotel have everything included in the price. Still need to either to cook your own food or go to a restaurant to eat.
HAPPY TRAVEL!!!!
