PSiMiTAR
PSiMiTAR is Newcastle (UK) producer Steesh's new project as Baron Von Alias with vocalist LKP. Taking influence from a broad range of styles, from 70s funk, 80s soul, 90s hip hop, blended together with a current and contemporary edge.
iInfluences include the likes of Mac Miller, Anderson .Paak, KAYTRANADA, Free Nationals, Disclosure, Pomo, J Dilla, Tom Misch and Tyler, The Creator, the pair have come up with their own unique take on the sound. Combining live instruments, laid back beats, soul and rap.
Receiving support and airplay from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing with 'Superficial', the debut single certainly hit the ground running.
Both Steesh ( Baron Von Alias ) and LKP were formally members of BiG BEAT BRONSON, and solo artists in their own right, working alongside Hip Hop icons such as Guilty Simpson, Slum Village's T3, Khrysis, Oh No, Prince Po, Wildchild, Wordsworth amongst many others.
The pair have also gone on to perform at BBC Radio 1s Big Weekend, T in the Park, Secret Garden Party and Evolution Festival amongst many more. Playing alongside and supporting artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Professor Green, Rizzle Kicks, Rudimental, Blackalicious, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and many more.
Regular readers will know that I love Urban music that has an audibly regional flavour and Psimitar, who I have written about previously, are a good example, wearing their Geordie (that’s Newcastle-Upon-Tyne for readers not familiar with British colloquialisms) roots on their sleeves.
New track Better Believe It is a joyous slice of smooth Hip Hop with sweet synth tones playing jazz-infused chords over a funky Old Skool beat and a bassline straight out of the Loose Ends/Freeez school.
The rap is unmistakably North Eastern [albeit adorned with a few slight Londonisms!] while the sung vocals are soulful.
Imagine a Geordie Warren G teaming up with Craig David while Missy Elliot directs events and you might come close to envisaging this heartwarming track. Better still, go and listen to the track.
