Upon my return to my room in the Citadel I was greeted by a sentinel hovering in front of the plain wooden door. It didn’t seem to have been there long as the pacing action that the Citadel’s messengers were each programmed to perform after they had been stationary for a long length of time had not been initiated.
Its mechanical voice began reciting the message that it had been programmed to relay as soon as it sensed my presence drawing near.
The Ethereal visor that I had improved by streamlining the circuit efficiency was working very well and the Guardian that it belonged to wanted to meet me in their quarters to discuss some further customizations.
After the nights events I was glad to have a task that involved circuitry and machines. I had more than enough to process with regard to human biology and the complex energies I had observed at La Roseraie that I needed the simple efficiencies of Citadel technologies.
When the sentinel had finished its recording it asked if I needed any additional information or directions to Guardian # 12’s quarters.
I was familiar with the Library and the Scholars Quarters from my research and told the sentinel that I would find Guardian # 12 in the morning and requested the sentinel relay my thanks for the praise of my earlier work.
The sentinel silently hovered down the hall towards the Library as I entered my chambers.
After cleaning the blood off of my hands and washing myself thoroughly I slumped down on the bed in the corner of my simple living space.
Directly across the room was my workbench, covered in the tools of my trade, and on its very centre were the inferno implants I had pried from the eyes of Mlle. Epine. My stomach tightened as I recalled the encounter with the young woman and I shoved aside the thoughts of a life with such potential being extinguished far too early.
There would be time to ponder later, for now I needed rest and to focus on the task ahead.
