Nervous Night...

Well... we haven't started moving into the new place yet. We were due to do that on the Thursday just past... but in the end, my mother delayed her visit and so there wasn't a huge imperative to be in the new house. So, we figured that we would do it after most of the stuff had arrived in the shipments and when the girls were into their school holidays. That way, we could just do it an a leisurely pace... and with the girls helping unpack and decide where everything would go!

So, that means that this evening... we are again away from the house. And it is a bit of a blustery wind that is blowing... and has been blowing for most of the day today. There are many gum trees (and some pine ones) that are pretty filled up with leaves, and some with dead branches as well. These should have been pruned and tidied a long time ago... but the previous owner was not that keen to do it.

Branches that are heavy with leaves will catch the wind quite strongly... and if you are not lucky (like us last week) then a branch, or worse still, a whole tree can come falling down. And these things are pretty solid and will cause some pretty serious damage when they come falling!

Unfortunately, Canberra has had a bit of windy weather over the last few months... and that has meant that the arborists (tree guys) are run of their feet with work. So, that also means that we are hunting around for decent arborists to trim and tidy back our tree... and to hopefully take out one or two of the pine ones that just litter the ground like crazy with their pine needles!

We have our first appointment with a tree guy tomorrow... but I'm pretty worried that something is going to come down hard overnight. I know that we are likely going to need some council approval to bring down a tree... but I would definitely sleep easier in the night if I knew that some of the weaker branches and heavy full branches (and the dead ones) were taken out so that the trees didn't act as wind sails!

Anyway, I guess I will see the results of the evening and night's winds in the morning... hopefully it will just be broken branches at worst... and lots of leaves to clean out the gutter at best! I really don't want to see a broken tree for a long long time! It was a bit of a shock to the system to have that happen last week... and I won't be sad if I don't see it for a long time!

That said... the trees do give us some pretty amazing cover and views. They are pretty damn majestic... even when they are swaying in the wind. This particular shot of the morning Sun highlighting some new red eucalyptus leaves in the background of mature green leaves was a particularly nice view from our carport this morning!

Ahhhh... trees, a mixed blessing! I will be so much happier when they are just trimmed just little bit!
