Bitcoin Broke $70K. Now Comes the Hard Part

By The Finance Edge | The Finance Edge | 2 hours ago

Bitcoin finally broke above $70,000.

After spending weeks stuck around the low $60,000s, BTC suddenly came alive. It even pushed above $72,000 before giving some of those gains back.

Honestly, I didn't expect the move to happen this quickly.

But here's what I'm thinking now.

Breaking $70K is exciting. Holding it is harder.

So, What Changed?

A few things came together.

Bitcoin got a boost from improving sentiment around U.S. crypto regulation. President Trump also pushed lawmakers to move forward with the CLARITY Act.

But that wasn't the only reason.

Short sellers got caught badly.

More than $3 billion in crypto short positions were liquidated, forcing traders who were betting against Bitcoin to buy back their positions.

And that's where things can get crazy.

Bitcoin moves higher.

Shorts get liquidated.

Forced buying pushes Bitcoin even higher.

Then more shorts get wiped out.

Suddenly, the market is running much faster than anyone expected.

But Can Bitcoin Stay Above $70K?

This is the part I care about most.

A short squeeze can create a huge move.

But it doesn't necessarily create a lasting trend.

Now Bitcoin needs real buyers.

If BTC can stay above $70K and turn that level into support, I'd take this rally much more seriously.

But if it falls straight back below $70K, I wouldn't be surprised.

After such a fast move, some profit-taking is completely normal.

I'm Not Calling $80K Yet

I've learned not to get carried away by one big green candle.

Bitcoin can make you feel like you've missed the entire move in a few hours.

Then it can take those gains back just as quickly.

So for now, I'm watching $70K.

Not $80K.

Not $100K.

Just $70K.

If buyers defend that level, this could become something much bigger.

If they can't, then maybe this rally was mostly about short sellers getting trapped.

Either way, Bitcoin is finally moving again.

The breakout was exciting.

Now comes the part that actually matters: proving it can last.
