There was a long-anticipated announcement about Upland, just in time to miss PublishOx's contest, haha! But it is exciting news for exactly 3 groups of players.

First, let's talk about the announcement. Brooklyn FSA lots are coming very soon. FSA refers to a program where lots are set aside to provide an entry point for beginning and broke-ass players. What is the Upland definition of broke-ass? Less than 100,000UPX net worth. That puts my UPX stash in sad perspective. I am a broke ass, I guess. Can't even afford to feed my llama.
With that out of the way, it will be a fantastic time to join Upland. Far better than when I joined to float aimlessly over Fresno TLCoCC (the Lettuce Capital of Central California). Brooklyn is an incredible place with the full gamut of experiences you would ever want to seek in NYC, from museums and dirty water street hot dogs to history, beautiful parks, microbrews, and getting shot just a little bit. It's great! Fresno might also be great, but come on. Now that I am locked into Fresno, here is what it would cost me to get in on the Brooklyn Bonanza:
1. Send my floaty to a property near the Fresno train station = 5 UPX
2. Buy train ticket to San Francisco = 95 UPX (and will take 25 minutes! That's like BTC transaction speed haha)
3. Buy airplane ticket to NYC = 2,580 UPX (which is what two new FSA properties would cost in Fresno! And 42 minutes of waiting. 42! The Meaning Of Life!)
4. Buy train ticket to Brooklyn = 95 UPX...maybe more (if you can find a ticket, apparently Upland will be severely limited ticket slots to Brooklyn to 200 or so per day... I wanted to give you more information but (a) Upland makes it impossible to find useful information within the game and (b) I am searching using Presearch haha! Just to give you a taste of the unique world of Presearch search results, google.com is the 3rd page returned when you Presearch "google" not counting ads.)
Total cost just to have a chance of buying a property: 2,775 UPX
If you sign up to start playing Upland once they launch Brooklyn, as a new player not only do you not have to pay 2775 UPX just to look at properties, you will be given 5,000 or more UPX to start buying with right away, even more if you use my referral and put your own money in.
So, I am jealous of total beginners because I am sure that Brooklyn will crush Fresno in returns. I am happy that I started playing at all, prompted by the PublishOx contest, but it does suck to be locked into what is definitely the worst market by a HUGE margin.
My advice...wait until Brooklyn launches, use my referral or someone else's and get Brooklyn property.
I am trying to sell properties in Fresno to make enough UPX to get over to Brooklyn. It is going sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. If it doesn't work, I guess I will try to figure out how to flip properties in Fresno TLCoCC to buy resales in one of the other cities. Hopefully you can avoid feeling trapped and floating helplessly in the middle of nowhere.
