The Return of NASCAR

By honeyham420glazeit | The Doctrine | 17 May 2020

Today at 3:30 PM (EST),  NASCAR prepares to roll out the green flag at Darlington Raceway in Darlington South Carolina.  The event broadcast on FOX, however will not be open to fans as precautionary measures against COVID-19 have been implemented by NASCAR.   The return marks the second major American sport to return after the UFC took the lead on May 16th and several events last week.  Here are some quick facts leading up to the race:

On May 14th NASCAR announced a revised schedule starting with today's event as the beginning of their main cup series.  For the past several weeks NASCAR and FOX have been broadcasting iRacing pro cup invitationals which have featured some interesting shots of driver's personal homes and bedrooms.  My personal favorite's had to be either Denny Hamlin being bounced after someone clicked on his remote or Joey Logan's sweet guitar backdrop.  In these iRacing events mostly non-mainstream racers found success such as William Byron, Timmy Hill, and Ryan Preece.

Will the event seem strange today with no fans? Yes, but it will be interesting to observe and see what happens.  Vegas odds have Kyle Busch as a 5-1 favorite.  However, 40+ cars will roll out there today without qualifying and practice.  What are you looking forward to in today's event?
