DeFi aka Finance 2.0 aka Decentralized Finance

What's DeFi ?

DeFi actually Shortcuts Decentralized Finance and is often claimed to be the Finance of the Future because of it's decentralized blockchainbased structure. DeFi is a collection of decentralized apps that make the blockchain more comfortable to use for everyone. Most Defi Apps also called dApps provide some sort of second or third layer interface where users can pay, lend, borrow, swap, or margintrade with their assets. These dApps have the Goal to replace Banks without performing the function of a Bank. That simply means you hold your assets yourself and no longer need a middleman for your transaction. You always keep total control but are also the only one responsible for your assets.

dApps - decentralized applications are censorship resistant apps stored on a blockchain able to interact with it.
blockchain - decentralized database that stores data in hashes that get stacked in so called blocks entangled with previous blocks

You will soon find out that DeFi is very Ethereum Protocol based... That does not at all mean that DeFi is exclusive to ETH but it does mean that most dApps and their Stablecoins used in DeFi are based on ETH and are usually work via MetaMask... Lots of new Terms I brought in so i'll explain a bit...

Ethereum - Ethereum is a Blockchain Protocol that coordinates the Cryptocurrency Ether and is generally referred to as ETH the Cryptocurrency
Stablecoins - Stablecoins are Digital Tokens that represent the real value of a usually Real Life Currency or Asset for example USDTether
Metamask - MetaMask is a Browser Ethereum Blockchain Interface that enables your Browser of Interacting with Blockchains based on ETH

Any dApps on DeFi I need to know ?

You probably guessed there is more than just one DeFi  App out there and there are also dApps for the Bitcoin Blockchain but in this Articke I will focus on ETH dApps because they are more functional at the moment, more people use them and in terms of DeFi ETH has gained the largest Market Cap. Look into http://defipulse.com for the recent stats and specs about the most used dApps on the web.
