The Metaverse is something that people have been talking for awhile about in crypto. People buy up digital land in the hopes that the project that they buy it on will gain adoption and people will buy their land for more and profit from it. However, I've noticed that a big problem with modern crypto metaverses are that they are clunky and very costly to join.
My biggest deterrence with joining a crypto project like a play to earn game is when the cheapest option for your character is like 0.5 Ethereum. I am not shelling out $1,000 for a game that I've never even played before. The play to earn games I've played were Gods Unchained because you could play with free cards. And I play Algoseas because of the insanely cheap entry price of 3 Algorand at the time. I'm sure there are many crypto game projects that have a cheap entry price, but the ones I've seen on Ethereum are way overpriced.
The reason I am focusing on play to earn crypto games, is because I imagine a MMORPG play to earn game would be the most effective Metaverse. In MMORPG's you can buy and sell things like items and houses. You can also adventure and play with friends. Fighting monsters and receiving cryptocurrency would be amazing. Selling rare items for actual money would have people joining in the thousands. However, if the entry price for such a game is in the hundreds of dollars, the only people who are going to play the game will be the die hard fans of crypto.
We need to reach the masses with these projects if we want to expand. The institutional investor aren't who we should be appealing to. We should be appealing to those who aren't rich already. Those are the people that will want to play to earn to begin with. Also, if we appeal to the masses, then the amount of people sticking around will be more because more people will have their friends playing with them. And when you play games with friends, you tend to play for longer.
The potential for people to get full time jobs in the Metaverse is likely because of how much money there is to make in an MMORPG. Thus the importance of the industry is greatly increased compared to current MMORPG's. The other thing I've noticed about crypto projects, especially game wise, is that they are clunky and need to be flushed out. Nobody is going to get into a game or Metaverse if the game runs at like 10 frames per second. The game needs to look and feel fluid. Just like in traditional video games.
An MMORPG play to earn game is the future of the Metaverse. That's what I imagine at least. Let me know what you think could help with adoption for the Metaverse and if you think that MMORPG's are the future of the Metaverse.
