The Crypto_Gam3r Blog: Splinterlands Announces 21 New Reward Cards

By crypto_gam3r | The Crypto_Gam3r Blog | 10 Sep 2021

Greetings Gamers!

Today I will be going over the announcement from Splinterlands on the release of 21 new reward cards and some other changes to the game that will hit this Monday 9/13/2021.

The Announcement:

On Wednesday 9/8/2021 Splinterlands announced the upcoming release of 21 new Reward cards. The cards will contain 3 new cards from each Splinter and 3 neutral cards. The rarity breakdown is as follows: 6 Common, 8 Rare, 4 Epic, and 3 Legendary. The cards are part of the new Chaos Legion frames whose packs are set to be released for purchase later this year.

The print limits for the cards are : Common - 8 million, Rare - 2 million, Epic - 800k, and Legendary - 200k.

In addition to the release of these cards, the Reward Chest  percentages will also be updated. They will now be: Reward Card - 50%, DEC - 25%, Potion - 25%.

With these new cards, and ultimately when Chaos Legion packs are released for sale, we will also get new abilities. They are:

My Thoughts:

Anyone who has read my first post on the game, knows I have only been playing Splinterlands for about 4 weeks. So my perspective on these changes may be very different from a long term player. But no matter how long you've been playing I think the announcement has excited everyone. So lets look at what these changes could mean for the earning potential in the game.

The release of the cards themselves, and the upcoming release of the Chaos Legions packs could have the biggest affect on card value for currently available cards. The current Common Reward Cards of Charlok Minotaur, Chain Spinner, Harvester, Nightmare and Demented Shark are currently selling for $0.20-$0.30. A lot of speculation is that these cards and others from Untamed will rise in value after the new release, as these cards will no longer be given in chests and there will be less available as they get combined to make higher level cards. I myself admitted on Thursday I got sucked into buying a lot of these cards, in hope they rise significantly in the coming weeks, but have ultimately abandoned this plan to build a deck of usable cards to win battles.

The initial value of the new releases will be a point of interest for me as well. The mint number is 20x higher the previously released Reward Cards. So if they are 20x more available, will they be selling for as little as $0.01? And if so how long before enough are combined into higher level cards to make the value rise? Definitely something to watch in the coming weeks.

I think the most exciting part for me as a new player is the increased rate at which chests will produce cards. For me, someone who doesn't own a lot of cards and has not experienced playing through higher levels, increased card rewards is more desirable than getting lower amounts of DEC. I also think it is more attractive to the large population of new players that keeps coming into the game.

As for the new abilities, I'm assuming most of these are for higher level cards that I cannot use currently, but Camouflage seems like a direct counter to Sandworm, and it will be interesting to see how they change the play of higher level players.

Conclusion:

As with any game, new releases are always exciting. As I am more focused on the financial potential, I will continue to analyze and document the profitability of Splinterlands and how this release affects my performance.
