A woman in Ontario, Canada, lost over $7000 to an investment scam that she came over while spending time on the social media app TikTok. In the end she chose to invest the money because she needed support for her son with autism. And this apparently deepfake video came up as a quick way for her to earn a lot of money by investing in crypto. Sadly enough it ended with her falling victim to what was an online investment scam and lost all of her hard earned savings. This is a very good example of the importance of being careful and always doing research before making any financial decisions! Especially when it comes to online investments that you come over online. It serves as a reminder to be very careful and skeptical of investment opportunities that seem too good to be true. Because the fact is that they are always not real if this is the case. These scams pray on people that is in a big need of money, making their lives even harder.



The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization was interviewed in the article from CTV News about this case, and they emphasized the importance of being cautious with online investment offers, and that particularly when it's about cryptocurrency. They explained the importance to verify the source of financial advice. It was also pointed out that individuals promising high returns with no risk, is a big redflag. Some obvious signs of potential investment scams is unsolicited offers, high-pressure tactics, and the use of buzzwords like patented or celebrity testimonials. Other buzzwords that come to my mind is passive income, that is thrown around a lot. It seems like these type of financial scams are so very common in social media that people start to believe it because they see it everywhere. 

Remember: You are not going to get rich by randomly following a stranger's advise online! If someone is trying to get rich by telling others how to get rich, run!
