Some Good News: SpaceX Starship Launch!

By Cje95 | Texas Living | 8 Jan 2021

While the last few days have been pretty rough for the United States, I have to say it has been extremely tough on me too. I have just relocated from Houston, Texas to Washington, DC arriving on the 31st of December. All of that aside some great news came out of South Texas today! Yesterday SN9 which means Serial Number 9 had its first static fire where it lit up its 3 merlin rocket engines for 1 second.

While the previous Starship which was SN8 did 4 test-fires the US Space Force has applied a flight lockdown for the Bocca Chico Texas area from Friday to Sunday. This means that as soon as Friday another Starship could be lifting off and running through some altitude tests again. With the last mission not being fully complete, it would not be much of a surprise to see SN9 try to complete the whole sequence of events. This means the ship would flu up to 60,000 feet and the flip before landing. Last time the aircraft was not quick enough with its flip so its engines were not able to fire again until it was to close to the ground to prevent the "hard" landing.

Not a lot has been said so far about this launch and what all it will consist of. It could just be they do a couple of low altitude test hops but I would not expect Elon Musk's SpaceX to spend to long on tests that repeat themselves. While they may do a hop or two they will then push the envelope again to see where the next breaking point is to keep marching forward. Elon has talked about getting this ship to the point of space flight by the end of this year beginning of next.

Lastly there is the first launch of the year and its by SpaceX. They are launching a Turkish satelight that will provide broadband access to Turkey, the Middle East and Northern Africa. Previously people have been against the launch because it is helping Turkey with the issues facing America it has gone by the wayside.
