There are a ton of things that I love about my job from what I do to who I work with but every once in a while it just becomes a little excessive. Like most things in life, it is possible to have too much of something, and recently I have really run into that headfirst. Working for a Committee in Congress leads to having to juggle a ton of different projects and tasks at once including things in your personal life. My biggest outlet to handle all of this has been crypto because while my Committee does have some authority and a stake in the industry it isn't involved with the whole regulatory issues like other committees are.
This has given me a fantastic reason to attend briefings and meetings over the area without having to entirely dive off the deep end. I had been able to have a great work-life balance and that included crypto and blogging as a vital outlet. Over the last two weeks though that has fallen by the wayside as Congress has reared its head due to the collapse of FTX and everything that has surrounded that. All of a sudden my job and my outlet became one and the same and the idea of balancing the two quickly fell by the wayside. As I am sure has been noticeable my posts dwindled before they really stopped entirely as I needed to create some space between the two.
These last two weeks of taking a step back were key and important for me to be able to recenter myself for the last two weeks that Congress is in session. Over the next week, I will write a few articles about what is going on on Capital Hill about crypto and FTX. Last week we had our first hearing in the Senate where they talked to the head of the CFTC to see what their legislation would have done, both good and bad, in light of what transpired. One thing that I think is important to note for everyone reading this is that no significant legislation is going to be passed before next year.
Simply put there is not enough time as Congress's session is over on December 16 and there are vital government actions that must be passed. For those who do not know the government funding for the year is over on December 16th and we still have to pass a National Defense Authorization Act, the legislation that pays for the military and other defense functions, by December 16th as well. Other pieces of legislation are sure to be passed as well but those two bills have to and there are no if, ands, or buts to that. What we are seeing in the meantime is the different pieces of legislation that will be brought forth and proposed next year as they are taking shape right now.
