Getting Back to DC

By Cje95 | Texas Boy in a DC World | 2 Feb 2021

This last weekend my roommate, neighbor, and I decided to take a road trip from Washington, DC to NYC. I did not really want to go and tried to get my roommate to call it off but he was hellbent. With the neighbor only going if I would go I was really left without a choice. I had been watching the weather and had seen it continue to get worse and worse but hoped for the best.

The trip up to NYC took us longer then it should have as it took roughly 5 hours instead of the 4 it should have. When we decided to head back to DC from New York NYC had just started to get snow. We where hearing and reading all of the reports about how much worse it was but still decided to push on through.

After over 2 hours and traveling roughly 100 miles the roads were too bad to continue. We had not even made it to Philly and to make matters worse I was suppose to start work the next day. Since my roommate and I work in the same office I made him take care of the issue of me not being there.

The hotel we stopped at while nice did not have rooms with two Queen beds so I ended up sleeping on the couch. This would not have been an issue except that we had no blankets or anything to cover me. I slept with my own jacket draped over my legs. I spent a ton of time outside too since I had never seen snow. While the others promised to come join me neither did. It was an upsetting development that really put a negative end to our trip. Further issues emerged during this and when we drove back the next morning I rode in the back with headphones on. I had finally just had enough. Between my health and the issues storms cause me from my neurosurgeries and the way I was treated it was to much.

Luckily the roads were a ton better and we could go the speed limit as opposed to 20 mph. When we got back I immediately make some food and went into my room at and fell asleep. The whole ending really soured what should have been a fun trip and has left me irritated I even went.
