Getting Back into The Swing of Things

By Cje95 | Texas Boy in a DC World | 13 Jan 2024

Even though I have been back in Washington, D.C. since December 30, 2023, it has only been in the last few days I have been able to get back into the flow of things. I was able to escape the DC and go home for the first time in 2023 on December 18th and even though I have been back for roughly 10 days now it is still a bit of a struggle to turn the page and get going. When I was home I did the best job I have ever done in disconnecting from work and the computer overall. Granted some of that was due to having to go to thirteen doctor appointments in eight business days but I survived and arguably got better but still fully kicking it into gear has been a struggle.

The Congressional Committee I am on returned to work on the second so this was our second week back. Many of my friends who work for Personal Offices only had to return this last week once the House of Representatives came back into session on Tuesday. Even though we are just now getting started on things again most staffers I know are already dreading the next couple of months because it is full of three-week and even a four-week block of the House in session (for reference last year we often went two weeks in session one week out). Not to mention this week was a little bit chaotic as we have seen play out.

Coupled with the nasty weather we have had in DC compared to the warmth and sunshine in Texas it just makes it all that more depressing. This last week we had flooding rains and this next week we are gearing up for not one but two days of snow which I am sure isn't going to cause a ton of chaos. Even on the rare times that the sun is out the wind is coming from the north and whipping through freezing the heck out of people most of the time though it is just grey outside... nasty and boring grey.

Finally, though I think it is safe to say I am getting back into the swing of things. My emails are all either addressed or categorized which is a huge thing for me since I had over 1,000 of them and the calendar for legislative activities is starting to fill out so crypto should soon again be on one of the dockets. Thanks to the Bitcoin ETFs we can almost guarantee it will happen to at least cover that new development and how the proposed regulation framework the House is looking to move forward with just to make sure it is still compatible!
