Federal Offices Were Closed But I Did Find Where The Government Saves Money!

Federal Office Closures

I am sure this is going to drive some people crazy but like the title says the Office of Personal Management or OPM last night announced that Federal Offices would be closed today. Well they said that "maximum telework was in effect"

Unlike the rest of the Federal Government, this does not typically apply to Congress because OPM is for the Executive and judicial branches, not Congress. That is why Members are still expected to appear in a few hours to certify the Electoral College. Members are still "on the clock" however in almost every case, the Members are not requiring their staff to come into the office today due to how bad the conditions are and because services across the city are either paused or not running. Daycares and schools across the area all started announcing last night that they would not be open due to the weather which means that senior staff in particular who tends to be people who have kids would be forced to take the day off and work from home. Plus when you factor in the number of bridges most people have to take to even get to DC it is just way to dangerous. Which leads me to where the government is saving taxpayer money!

Saving Taxpayer Money

I think most of us can agree that the government is awful at spending the taxpayer's money. However, I have now found one place where they are skimping and saving that sweet sweet dollar bill! It's been known for around a week that we were going to get slammed by this winter storm and DC had plenty of time to prepare the roads, sidewalks, etc. for this.... Wellllllll let me tell ya they failed big time with this!

When I was walking around Navy Yard (just south of the Capitol Complex) between 7 and 9 am today guess what wasn't being done!?!?! The roads were NOT PLOWED AT ALL AND THE TRUCKS WITH PLOWS WERE JUST PARKED! I saw on social media a little after 9 that the first trucks were making their first sweeps through but they were then going back to park instead of continuing to keep the roads clear cause that is a crazy wild idea esp as the show picked back up! So ya know I guess there is that little nuggets of money being saved! Our government has decided that the best way to save money is to inconvenience people who live in DC by not plowing 5+ inches off the roads and I guess we gotta wait for more!

I swear sometimes I really just have no words for how stupid DC is run.
