The Chaos of Working For Congress but at Least I Have Crypto

I love my job, what I do, and the people that I work with but at the same time it is some of the most draining chaotic stuff I have ever encountered. When I started I figured that it would be like any other "normal" job. You work from X to Y, if you do not complete whatever work you have naturally you would have to stay late or come in early. I imagined there would be some amount of a work/life balance but boy oh boy was I wrong.

Our salaries are all public record so I have no issue discussing that I make a gross of $50k a year and which is an increase from the $47.5 I made last year before I was promoted within my Committee. Where this salary starts to look well sad is when you realize that you are often on the clock attached to your work phone 24/7 when Congress is in session and then also when you are out of session if some piece of legislation is being brokered in the Committee between the Republicans and Democrats. All of this is to say I never imagined working a job where I hit 40 hours typically by Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon at the latest.

It is easy to imagine that this is extremely draining and one of if not the biggest reasons we see Congress move so slowly. A lot of personal offices and committees will go through periods of high turnover. When this happens momentum that might have been gathered comes to a stop and the new person taking over not only has to spend time getting up to speed with what is going on but also negotiate the best deal he or she can for their boss. To have a true work/life balance I realized requires a few things some of which are not possible starting out. The first is a position to be able to delegate things to others and the second is money.

For me, this is where crypto has been a lifesaver as I have made good money in the space. A recent report came out broke down what a person's take-home pay was when they made $100,000 in the top 76 cities in the US. In Washington, D.C. the take-home pay for when you grossed $100,000 was only $44,000. Now take me and cut that take-home pay in half and that leaves me with just $22,000. You have to survive off of this, find a place to live, eat, save money, and be crazy enough to socialize with friends or family which only costs more. I have been extremely lucky over the last few years with some just general trades that turned out beautifully as well as FORTH airdrop. FORTH alone paid for my LASIK surgery along with other various expenses last year.

This job also allows me to do something that I do not think other jobs really allow you to do and that is to become more or less an expert in whatever your portfolio covers. While I am not directly tied to the crypto space and the rules or regulations that Congress is looking into passing or proposing I have other friends who are along with just general gossip. None of this information is classified or secret it is more along the lines that people do not know where to look or who to ask. It has allowed me to share my thoughts both here and in other places like the r/cryptocurrency subreddit.

Being able to research and really become an expert in something while getting paid makes it all worth it. Finding out about the newest crypto projects as well and seeing where they could fit/be affected by Congressional or regulator actors and relay that information to people is something that I do not take light-heartedly and something I think is the right thing to do. Hopefully, I can get some more clarity soon from some of my friends to better understand the two pieces of legislation that the House Financial Service Committee is aiming to move to the House Floor in the next couple of months but right now with that legislation, a lot is still up in the air and really unknown. As soon as I know though don't you worry I will be sure to pass along what I learn and what I think the impact will be to y'all!
