I first got to know about worldcoin from coin bureau video about, both for me and him it looked like a bizarre project with many flaws and potential privacy and security risks.
Worldcoin is a biometric crypto project developed by company named "Tools for Humanity", it was founded 2019 by one of chief executives of OpenAi plus some other guys. Worldcoin hopes to provide a way to authenticate humans online called World ID.
It offers "free" crypto token WLD to people for scanning their eye in a special orb which is used to create the world id. They do this to "avoid exploiters and bots, but i think there might be more nefarious reasons. This scanning and storing method is highly not private and the creators of this crypto project know this for sure, because they only rolled it out in poor countries so far, people there might be more willing to sacrifice their privacy for some money. Even Vitalik Buterin pointed this out.
Upon signing up for a World ID, users can receive 25 WLD. They can claim it each week without a cap. You can call it guaranteed income.
It has currently about 2 million users in 35 cities in 20 countries. It is currently worth 2.18$
Free money can look appealing, you get 54$ worth of crypto every week after all, but if they keep giving it away it will drive prices down also it is probably just a marketing ploy to sign up those dystopian eye scanning world ids.
