Can AI Reshape Cybersecurity?

Can AI Reshape Cybersecurity?

By Debesh Choudhury | TechFuture | 23 Jul 2023

Today, cybersecurity is a mainstream requirement.

Nowadays, online activities increased tremendously.

  • There are more virtual meetings than face-to-face meetings now.

  • The world is slowly moving toward digital implementations in almost everything.

  • As a result, online threats and data hacking are commonplace happening.

  • Naturally, protecting online security and privacy is becoming more relevant.

Therefore, cybersecurity is a mainstream requirement today.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been the trend in almost everything.

  • AI is the keyword that points toward empowering the machine to think, decide, design, develop, and take action.

The entire world has been under the magical spell of AI for quite some years.

  • The release of ChatGPT and other AI platforms made people celebrate AI.

  • Developments in AI applications have never impacted the tech business in such a big way. Every business enterprise, small or big, is considering at least one AI application in its product line.

It is like releasing a new movie with newer tech gadgets.

The celebration of AI is projected like a hot movie.

The celebration of the subject of AI in tech conferences may be compared with the glamor or hype of the film world.

  • Watch out how Vasu Jakkal, the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Security, appeared on the podium of the recently held RSA Conference two months ago.

I never imagined a tech subject of AI could be promoted at a tech conference like RSA Conference in such a filmy way! Vasu Jakkal appeared in a filmy outfit and projected AI in cybersecurity almost in a manner a film trailer was released.

Can AI contribute to augmenting cybersecurity?

Whether AI can help to improve every technology application is not entirely known.

  • One should not comment without having extensive research reports of rigorous experiments of AI algorithms in the field.

AI is an exciting subject for open-ended investigations in various areas of life.

  • As a researcher of a small subset of information security, I am nowhere near to comment how AI may help improve/augment the subject of cybersecurity.

I am almost certain, at least in the field of password security, where I have a little bit of work experience, that AI may make the entire authentication process confused and jeopardized.

Conclusion

People should not rely on AI-generated products, such as medicines and vaccines.

Who can blame AI for the side effects of not tested medicines/vaccines?

WHO (World Health Organization) and the big pharma won't take responsibility for the side effects of the COVID vaccines, but one day, they might put the blame on AI for the negative impacts.

Now, Microsoft is projecting big hopes for AI to improve cybersecurity.

Some day, if there are catastrophic cyber attacks, Microsoft may say, "AI is Cancer."

Postscript

Don't forget, for many years, Microsoft projected Linux as "Cancer."

Who I am

  • I am from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). I have also added "Arts" and "Fine Art" to my interests and made my interests STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

  • I develop solutions for passwords and cybersecurity relevant to cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and blockless distributed ledgers.

I hope the entire blogging community will strive here and elsewhere.
