... with just a simple trick
No, you don't need an adblocker.
Recently a redditor discovered a trick with which you can watch YouTube videos without the annoying advertisements.
It seems like the strange bug that he found lifts advertisements on YouTube and even payment barriers on other websites.
Getting rid of ads on YouTube is done by simply adding a dot at the end of the domain in the address bar of the browser.
Here is an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
becomes
https://www.youtube.com./watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
Apparently this trick also works on the desktop version on smartphones.
According to a few reddit users this bug exists because some websites do not normalize the hostname.
This bug can apparently only be fixed by YouTube itself, so the trick will probably not last long.
Apart from the personal added value of this trick, one should keep in mind that YouTube and the creators which videos you are watching earn money with advertising. If you like the content you consume, you should be willing to at least pay for the advertising.
