Why I Write

By vikpowell | Talespinner | 22 Jan 2021

To start off this blog, I want to tell a little about why I write. Why I use this space in the crypto-universe and fill it with content. When I read monumental works of fiction and thought-provoking non-fiction, I feel invigorated, motivated, and energized and entertained.

For me, it is not enough just to entertain someone with a great story, for watching paint dry can be of some entertainment to the right person. It is not enough to be entertaining, for a fool can provoke laughs—and not always the right kind.

I write because I want to pass on what superb storytellers gave to me. A legacy of understanding the human condition, to give the same invigoration and motivation as I have received, to believe that I can do anything to which I set my mind.

I am not talking about persuading someone to believe in the same things I believe in but translate the stories I write into their own lives and see where they can climb mountains, scale walls, and do the impossible.

I write because I wish to tell the world that it IS possible. Whatever it is for you.

I believe many people have abdicated belief in themselves for a variety of reasons, including safety, comfort, stability, or an experience that prevents them from seeing an alternative or what is possible. While I include myself in this statement, I must keep a positive outlook and faith in the achievement of a dream. To do otherwise, I am not sure I could live in today’s world.

I write because I must, to tell tall tales of things and people in the great beyond. I am compelled beyond any physical or mental barrier to put words to pen and paper, to record the thoughts, or share the stories, to give the literary smile to all I meet.

I write to spin a yarn.

To "spin a yarn" is to tell a tale. The art of telling a story, a tale, is essential to the human experience. We all have stories to weave, tales to spin. Here is mine.
